Edo 2024: Omosede Igbinedion Exits PDP Over Marginalization

By Halima Abdulkadiri

Omosede Gabriella Igbinedion, daughter of prominent businessman and PDP chieftain Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, has announced her resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Omosede, who served as the representative for Ovia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives from 2015 to 2019, cited marginalization of “Aboriginal PDP members” as the primary reason for her departure.

In her resignation letter addressed to both the state and national leadership of the PDP, Omosede emphasized her disillusionment with the party’s current direction. “I no longer have the drive, conviction, sentiment, and commitment towards a party that I once called home,” she stated, pointing to the absence of indigenous members in key positions as a major concern.

Omosede also expressed her ongoing commitment to the people of Ovia, whose support has been unwavering throughout her political career. Her resignation is effective from August 11, 2024.

While Omosede has not revealed her next political steps, speculation ties her to a potential move to the All Progressives Congress (APC). She has been associated with the legacy coalition group of the PDP led by suspended National Vice Chairman South-South, Chief Dan Orbih, many of whom have already transitioned to the APC or shown support for its gubernatorial candidate.
