Eid-El-Kabir: FRSC deploys 693 personnel, warns against reckless driving in Gombe

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Gombe State Command, said it has deployed its personnel and Special Marshals across the state to ensure hitch-free Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.

The Sector Commander, Mr Felix Theman, stated this on Friday at a news conference shortly after sensitising some members of road transport workers at the FRSC state command in Lafiyawo community in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State.
Theman said the command had deployed 593 officers and 100 special marshals across the state to ensure a hitch-free Sallah celebration.

He urged driviers not to be in hurry while plying roads in the state, noting that their safety and that of passengers should be prioritised.

According to him, any motorist find to be violating traffic rules will not be spared, hence the need for them to be law-abiding while using the roads.

“The command is also concerned about the reckless conduct of riders in particular and is calling on them to obey traffic laws while celebration.

“The command is calling on the motoring public to respect personnel of FRSC and all other agencies towards ensuring a peaceful Sallah 2024,” he said.

He said that the deployed personnel would ensure enforcement and public enlightenment campaigns towards achieving crash-free, hitch-free, and seamless vehicular movement around the state during and after the festival.

The sector commander also said offences such as excessive speed, overloading, loading of humans and animals, driving with worn-out or expired tyres, drivers license violations and lane indiscipline would not be condone.

He advised drivers and road users including motorcyclists and riders against using phones or carrying out any activities that could undermine safety while on the road.

Theman who later inspected the mobile court being conducted close to their command urged motorists to do the right thing and get all necessary documents before plying routes in the state.

Speaking to newsmen, Mr Yahaya Abubakar, Chairman, Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), New Mile 3 branch, Gombe commended FRSC for sensitising them on the need to ensure safety while urging its members in the state to adhere to traffic rules.

Abubakar appealed to personnel to also respect the rights of drivers while carrying out their enforcement to ensure peace and harmony while carrying out their operations.

“I am now more enlightened and I will also task my members to do the right thing so that this year’s Sallah celebration will be crash-free and more lives and property would be saved,” he said.
