In a bid to enhance effective service delivery in Yobe State, Governor Hon. Mai Mala Buni CON administered the Oath of Office to two new Commissioners, the state Head of Service, four Permanent Secretaries, and 28 Special Advisers.

The newly appointed commissioners are Prof. Abba Idris and Alh. Mohammed Mohammed Bara. During the ceremony, Governor Buni emphasized the importance of prudent and transparent governance. He urged the commissioners to leverage their experience and innovative ideas to further the administration’s achievements, always prioritizing the welfare and future of the state’s citizens.

“You are also expected to use your wealth of experience and inject new ideas to add value to the achievements recorded by this administration. You should be mindful of serving the people first with great consideration to the future of the state,” Buni stated.

Addressing the new Head of Service, Hamidu M. Alhaji, Governor Buni highlighted the challenges posed by the retirement of experienced staff. He stressed the need to cultivate an effective and efficient workforce.

“I want to assure you that government would provide your office with all the necessary support to train and retrain the workforce to promote efficiency in service delivery. However, this administration will not tolerate favoritism in appointments and promotions to undeserving persons while the most qualified and deserving persons are abandoned and frustrated. We must promote competence and merit to make the civil service efficient and productive,” the governor emphasized.

Governor Buni also addressed the Special Advisers, underscoring the importance of connecting with their constituents to facilitate a better understanding of government policies and programs.

“Most often, our communities are left behind because we fail to bring them on board to understand the workings of government policies and programmes. The office of a Special Adviser can only be vibrant when there is a working connection with the grassroots to afford you credible inputs, for you to advise from a well-informed perspective,” Buni said.

The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to maintaining an open-door policy, encouraging public officers to contribute and take collective responsibility for government actions. He urged the new appointees to embrace accountability, probity, and transparency, highlighting the administration’s achievements in these areas, which have earned recognition and awards from international organizations.

“Let me state with a sense of modesty that as a government, we have made impressive success in accountability and transparency in governance which has earned the state recognition and awards from
