Kim Jong Un Oversees North Korea’s Suicide Drone Test Amid Rising Tensions
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has personally supervised a test of domestically-produced suicide drones, according to a report from the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
Images released by North Korean media on Monday showed a white drone with X-shaped tails crashing into and obliterating a target designed to resemble South Korea’s K-2 main battle tank.
Kim, surrounded by advisers in the photos, has been focused on modernising North Korea’s military capabilities. The latest drone test was conducted during his visit to the Drone Institute of the Academy of Defense Science, KCNA revealed.
In his statements, Kim highlighted the growing significance of drones in modern warfare and stressed the need for Pyongyang’s military to adopt them quickly.
He urged the accelerated production of various systems, including explosive drones for infantry and special forces, reconnaissance drones, and underwater suicide attack drones.
This test marks another step in North Korea’s efforts to bolster its tactical warfare capabilities, following advances in its missile and nuclear programs.
The move comes at a time of heightened tensions, as the United States and South Korean forces are currently conducting joint military exercises aimed at strengthening their defensive posture against North Korea. The drills are set to continue until Thursday.

Yobe Govt Donates N100m to Support Borno Flood Victims
Yobe State Governor, His Excellency Hon. Mai Mala Buni CON, has extended a N100 million donation to the Borno State Government to aid victims of the recent Maiduguri floods. The announcement was made during a sympathy visit to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum in Maiduguri on Saturday.
In addition to the state donation, Governor Buni also pledged a personal contribution of food items worth N50 million to assist those affected by the floods. He described the humanitarian crisis as devastating and urged everyone to come forward with support.
“Yobe and Borno states are like twins, sharing similar hardships. We must stand by each other in times of need,” Buni stated.
The Yobe Governor also expressed condolences for those who lost their lives in the disaster and wished a quick recovery for the injured.
Governor Zulum expressed gratitude to Governor Buni and the people of Yobe State for their generosity and solidarity. He highlighted the strong bond between the two states, noting that Buni’s administration has further strengthened the unity between Borno and Yobe.
“The people of Yobe and Borno are one family, and this support reinforces that connection. We deeply appreciate the gesture,” Zulum said.

Joining Atiku is Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, both of whom are in Edo to bolster support for the party’s candidate, Asue Ighodalo, ahead of the September 21 election.
