Russian Militia Leader Demands Putin’s Ouster, Calling Him Responsible for Ukraine Failures

Georgy Zakrevsky, leader of the Paladin Private Military Company (PMC), has issued a direct challenge to President Vladimir Putin, blaming him for Russia’s military setbacks in Ukraine. In a video widely circulated among Russian troops, Zakrevsky urged the military to overthrow Putin, marking the most significant internal threat to the Kremlin since the Wagner Group’s revolt last year.

Zakrevsky, who founded Paladin PMC, a shadowy militia similar to Wagner, accused Putin of not only causing military failures but also of exacerbating Russia’s economic and social crises. The Paladin PMC, with about 300 members, has previously participated in conflicts in Syria and Africa.

“Our nation is already in deep trouble,” Zakrevsky said in the video. “Drones are flying over central Russia, our Black Sea fleet is being driven out, and our aviation is nearly ineffective. We remain in the same positions we occupied over two years ago, if not in retreat. Meanwhile, our population is dying out, becoming impoverished, and no one cares. Putin, who brought this upon us, must be removed.”

Zakrevsky’s video, distributed widely among Russian military personnel, echoes the sentiments that led to the Wagner Group’s brief march on Moscow last June, led by Yevgeny Prigozhin. Prigozhin’s rebellion was halted at the last moment, but he later died in a suspicious plane crash.

This latest call to arms from Zakrevsky comes amid Ukraine’s recent advances into Russian-held territory, where Kyiv’s forces have reclaimed approximately 800 square miles. The Russian military’s inability to halt the Ukrainian offensive has further undermined Putin’s authority and could lead to more internal dissent.
