South Africa Deports 95 Libyans for Alleged Illegal Military Training in Mpumalanga
On Sunday, South Africa deported 95 Libyan nationals who were arrested in July at a suspected illegal military training camp in Mpumalanga province. The Libyans, who entered the country in April under the guise of studying to become security guards, were detained during a police raid in White River, a well-known holiday destination in the northeastern province.
The raid uncovered military training equipment and drugs, leading to suspicions that the Libyans were involved in unauthorized military activities, violating the terms of their visas and South African immigration laws. The Department of Home Affairs promptly revoked their visas, asserting they were fraudulently obtained in Tunisia.
Despite the Libyans appearing in the White River magistrate’s court on three occasions, the National Prosecuting Authority dropped the charges against them last week. Following the dismissal of charges, they were deported to Benghazi from Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport.
Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber reiterated his department’s commitment to strictly enforcing immigration laws, vowing to use all resources at their disposal to uphold national security.

Yobe Govt Donates N100m to Support Borno Flood Victims
Yobe State Governor, His Excellency Hon. Mai Mala Buni CON, has extended a N100 million donation to the Borno State Government to aid victims of the recent Maiduguri floods. The announcement was made during a sympathy visit to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum in Maiduguri on Saturday.
In addition to the state donation, Governor Buni also pledged a personal contribution of food items worth N50 million to assist those affected by the floods. He described the humanitarian crisis as devastating and urged everyone to come forward with support.
“Yobe and Borno states are like twins, sharing similar hardships. We must stand by each other in times of need,” Buni stated.
The Yobe Governor also expressed condolences for those who lost their lives in the disaster and wished a quick recovery for the injured.
Governor Zulum expressed gratitude to Governor Buni and the people of Yobe State for their generosity and solidarity. He highlighted the strong bond between the two states, noting that Buni’s administration has further strengthened the unity between Borno and Yobe.
“The people of Yobe and Borno are one family, and this support reinforces that connection. We deeply appreciate the gesture,” Zulum said.

Ahead of the upcoming Edo State gubernatorial elections, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftains, including 2023 presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, have arrived in Benin for the party’s campaign grand finale.
Joining Atiku is Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, both of whom are in Edo to bolster support for the party’s candidate, Asue Ighodalo, ahead of the September 21 election.
