Two Ex-convicts, 46 Others, Arrested for Internet Fraud in Kaduna

The Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has arrested 48 internet fraud suspects, including two women, Precious Malachi Zidyep and Tina Patrick Omoyeme, in a sting operation in Kaduna.

The suspects also include two ex-convicts: Williams Justice Gankon and AbdulWasiu Yunus who were apprehended at Yoruba Street, Yakowa Expressway, Karji, Kaduna State. They were previously arrested on April 10, 2022, prosecuted and convicted on August 31, 2022 by Justice Nasiru Umar Sadiq of the Kaduna State High Court.

The other suspects are Triumph Abdul Yakub Faith, John Joseph Ojima, Benjamin Odey Sunday, Wisdom Omofunhe Billy, Korede Samuel Godiya, Isaiah Sunday, Favor Olayinka Bamidele, Gabriel Sunday, Sunday Simon Ojobo, Steven Dikeh Ebere, Abba Tachio, Moses Njoku Emeka, Okechukwu Kelvin Chidera, Lucius Rakun, Bege Bonet and Jonah Hussaini zisan.

Others include Jamiu Najiem, Mohammed Abdulwasiu, Ayuba Sikiru, Salim Bashir, Khalid Ola Abdulwasiu, Japhet Peter, Collins Haruna, AbdulKadir Afafasimu, Sebastine Yohanna Mamman, Franklin kingsley, Aliyu Suleiman AbdulRaman, Micahl Afred Antozoa, Okoro Henry, Christian Julius Tegu, Bature Japhet Yusuf, Nnamdi Orji Innocent, Macaulay Mathew Olushola, AbdulBasit Abdullahi Yahaya, Joseph Emeka, James Mark, Aminu Sale, Favour Mba, and Okoro Henry.

Most of the suspects were arrested at Rosalux Blue Hotel, Agua, Kaduna South which is fast becoming notorious as a haven for cyber-fraudsters as some suspects had been arrested in the facility by the Commission in the past.

Some of the items recovered from the suspects include mobile phones of different models and laptop computers.

The suspects will be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded.

Iraqi court sentences former IS leader’s wife to death

An Iraqi court on Wednesday sentenced the wife of the former top leader of the Islamic State (IS) group Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi to death.

According to Supreme Judicial Council statement, the Karkh Criminal Court issued the death verdict for the wife of the terrorist over joining the IS group and detaining the kidnapped Yazidi women in her house in west Mosul.

In 2019, the U.S. forces conducted a raid targeting al-Baghdadi in Syria’s northern province of Idlib, killing the IS leader.

Al-Baghdadi, whose real name is Ibrahim Awad al-Badri, established the IS in 2014.

The extremist militant group, which once captured large swathes of land in western and northern Iraq, was defeated in late 2017.

Police arrest suspected vandal on Third Mainland Bridge

The Police Rapid Response Squad (RRS) has arrested an 18-year-old suspected vandal, Mubarak Abdullahi, for allegedly stealing LED road stud light on the newly renovated Third Mainland Bridge.

Mr Jubril Gawat, the Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, disclosed this in a post he shared on his X handle, @Mr_JAGs, on Friday.

Gawat said that the suspect was arrested around 10.00 a.m. on Friday.

“The suspect, living in Makoko, had at the time of his arrest, removed 10 of the LED road stud light screwed to the road to enhance the visibility of road users.

“The suspect was caught red-handed by the operatives on patrol of the bridge around 10.00 a.m today,” he said.

According to him, RRS Commander, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, weeks ago, deployed bike riders on 24 hours security patrol in the area to monitor traffic and infrastructure on the bridge.

5 hunters arrested for torturing 14-year-old boy to death over alleged N20,000 theft in Adamawa

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested five hunters for torturing a 14-year-old boy to death over the alleged theft of N20,000 in the Maiha Local Government Area of the state.

Spokesperson of the command, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, June 6, 2024, said the suspects were arrested for “extra-judicial killing of a teenager”.

“The Adamawa State Police Command has on 5/6/2024 arrested five Hunters for the unlawful arrest and torture of a 14 years old teenager, whom they alleged to have stolen 20,000 in Maiha Local government area,” the statement read.

“The Commissioner of Police, while condemning the actions of the hunters, warned members of the public against taking the law into their own hands.

“The suspects are currently under investigation and would be charged to court for the law to take its course.”
