Weapon handling test: Army urges Gombe residents not to panic

The 301 Artillery Regiment General Support Gombe State said it would conduct its second schedule range classification exercise in 2024 in Malete Liji community, Yalmatu Deba Local Government Area of the state.

Assistant Director, Army Public Relations Officer, Capt. Mazinho Attah, in a press statement issued to journalists in Gombe on Tuesday, said the exercise would be conducted between Wednesday and Friday.

Attah said that the training was geared towards improving the handling of weapons by its personnel.

He, therefore, urged residents of the community where the exercise would be conducted not to panic over the sounds of weapons.

“In line with the Nigerian Army Directive for Year 2024, the 301 Artillery Regiment (General Support), Gombe will conduct its second schedule range classification exercise from August 21 to 23.

“The exercise will hold at 301 Artillery Regiment (General Support) Small Arms Range in Malete – Liji Area, Yamaltu – Deba Local Government Area, Gombe State by 6am daily.

“As a precautionary measure, residents in the Malete -Liji Range area are kindly urged not to panic on hearing sounds of weapons fired,” he said.

Attah also urged residents to equally keep off the area within the period of the exercise.

Our correspondent reports that the first exercise was conducted in the state in March.

Yobe Govt Donates N100m to Support Borno Flood Victims

Yobe State Governor, His Excellency Hon. Mai Mala Buni CON, has extended a N100 million donation to the Borno State Government to aid victims of the recent Maiduguri floods. The announcement was made during a sympathy visit to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum in Maiduguri on Saturday.

In addition to the state donation, Governor Buni also pledged a personal contribution of food items worth N50 million to assist those affected by the floods. He described the humanitarian crisis as devastating and urged everyone to come forward with support.

“Yobe and Borno states are like twins, sharing similar hardships. We must stand by each other in times of need,” Buni stated.

The Yobe Governor also expressed condolences for those who lost their lives in the disaster and wished a quick recovery for the injured.
