Reps Give EFCC Chairman Four-Day Ultimatum
The House of Representatives Committee on Financial Crimes has given Mr. Ola Olukoyede, Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), until July 30 to appear before it regarding budgetary allocation issues.
The committee, led by Rep. Obinna Onwusibe, expressed its displeasure during an oversight visit to the EFCC’s office in Abuja. The committee condemned what it termed the snobbish attitude of the chairman and the denial of access to the commission’s complex, prompting members to return to the National Assembly.
Despite prior communication and agreement on the oversight visit date, the committee was informed that Olukoyede was summoned to an emergency meeting at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Rep. Onwusibe stated that the oversight visit aimed to assess the EFCC’s budget performance and address its challenges. He noted that the committee had requested the presence of the chairman and all zonal commanders for an interface, but they were not available.
In response to the incident, the committee resolved to summon Olukoyede and his team to appear before it, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the functions and integrity of the 10th National Assembly. The committee also highlighted its ongoing efforts to obtain requested information and documents from the EFCC.

Yobe Govt Donates N100m to Support Borno Flood Victims
Yobe State Governor, His Excellency Hon. Mai Mala Buni CON, has extended a N100 million donation to the Borno State Government to aid victims of the recent Maiduguri floods. The announcement was made during a sympathy visit to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum in Maiduguri on Saturday.
In addition to the state donation, Governor Buni also pledged a personal contribution of food items worth N50 million to assist those affected by the floods. He described the humanitarian crisis as devastating and urged everyone to come forward with support.
“Yobe and Borno states are like twins, sharing similar hardships. We must stand by each other in times of need,” Buni stated.
The Yobe Governor also expressed condolences for those who lost their lives in the disaster and wished a quick recovery for the injured.
Governor Zulum expressed gratitude to Governor Buni and the people of Yobe State for their generosity and solidarity. He highlighted the strong bond between the two states, noting that Buni’s administration has further strengthened the unity between Borno and Yobe.
“The people of Yobe and Borno are one family, and this support reinforces that connection. We deeply appreciate the gesture,” Zulum said.
