Police kill bandit, arrest two others in Kaduna

Operatives of the Kaduna Police Command have neutralised one bandit at Rigachikun in Chikun Local Government Area of the state and arrested two others.

Spokesperson of the command, DSP Muhammed Jalige, in a statement on Sunday, January 15, 2023, said some of the suspected bandits escaped with bullet sounds while an AK47 rifle, a locally fabricated General Purpose Machine Gun with 10 rounds of life ammunition were recovered during the raid.

According to the PPRO, operatives attached to Rigachikun Division on 14th January, at about 0100hours received a distress call that armed bandits have invaded the residence of one Umar Ibrahim at Amana Maimadachi village with the view to carrying out nefarious activities.

Upon receipt of the distress report, the crack operatives alongside other local security stakeholders swiftly mobilized and moved to the location where they engaged the bandits and thwarted their attempt to kidnap law abiding citizens.

In the tactically executed operation, one of the armed bandits clad in military camouflage uniform was neutralized, while others escaped with serious gunshot injuries.

A serviceable AK47 rifle loaded with four (4) rounds of live ammunition was recovered from the neutralized bandit.

In a related development, operatives of the Command attached to Saminaka Division acted on credible information and launched a successful operation on the 13th January, 2023 at Warsa Piti Area of Saminaka Lere LGA where they arrested two bandits, namely; (1) Dauda Yusuf ‘m’ 35yrs, and (2) Sani Ibrahim ‘m’ 30yrs.

“When a thorough search was conducted on them, a locally fabricated GPMG rifle with its six (6) rounds of live ammunition and a Dane gun were equally recovered,” the spokesperson added.

Upon preliminary investigation, the suspects confessed to the ownership of the weapons and are currently assisting the Police in investigation at the end of which they will be charged to court.

Iraqi court sentences former IS leader’s wife to death

An Iraqi court on Wednesday sentenced the wife of the former top leader of the Islamic State (IS) group Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi to death.

According to Supreme Judicial Council statement, the Karkh Criminal Court issued the death verdict for the wife of the terrorist over joining the IS group and detaining the kidnapped Yazidi women in her house in west Mosul.

In 2019, the U.S. forces conducted a raid targeting al-Baghdadi in Syria’s northern province of Idlib, killing the IS leader.

Al-Baghdadi, whose real name is Ibrahim Awad al-Badri, established the IS in 2014.

The extremist militant group, which once captured large swathes of land in western and northern Iraq, was defeated in late 2017.

Police arrest suspected vandal on Third Mainland Bridge

The Police Rapid Response Squad (RRS) has arrested an 18-year-old suspected vandal, Mubarak Abdullahi, for allegedly stealing LED road stud light on the newly renovated Third Mainland Bridge.

Mr Jubril Gawat, the Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, disclosed this in a post he shared on his X handle, @Mr_JAGs, on Friday.

Gawat said that the suspect was arrested around 10.00 a.m. on Friday.

“The suspect, living in Makoko, had at the time of his arrest, removed 10 of the LED road stud light screwed to the road to enhance the visibility of road users.

“The suspect was caught red-handed by the operatives on patrol of the bridge around 10.00 a.m today,” he said.

According to him, RRS Commander, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, weeks ago, deployed bike riders on 24 hours security patrol in the area to monitor traffic and infrastructure on the bridge.

5 hunters arrested for torturing 14-year-old boy to death over alleged N20,000 theft in Adamawa

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested five hunters for torturing a 14-year-old boy to death over the alleged theft of N20,000 in the Maiha Local Government Area of the state.

Spokesperson of the command, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, June 6, 2024, said the suspects were arrested for “extra-judicial killing of a teenager”.

“The Adamawa State Police Command has on 5/6/2024 arrested five Hunters for the unlawful arrest and torture of a 14 years old teenager, whom they alleged to have stolen 20,000 in Maiha Local government area,” the statement read.

“The Commissioner of Police, while condemning the actions of the hunters, warned members of the public against taking the law into their own hands.

“The suspects are currently under investigation and would be charged to court for the law to take its course.”
