Police nab 3 Internet fraudsters in Kaduna
The Police Command in Kaduna State has arrested three suspected Internet fraudsters, for allegedly defrauding students of a higher institution of over N60 million.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Wednesday in Kaduna.
Hassan gave the names of the suspects as Muhammad Uthman Busari of Narayi Kaduna, AbdulAzeez Hamza of Hayin Dan-mani Kaduna and Noel Nims Audiya.
Hassan said the suspects had successfully scammed over 300 unsuspecting students of Kaduna State University (KASU) of their tuition fees amounting to N60 million.

“They compromised the students’ registration portal and took undue advantage of students who chose to pay their fees online rather than via the normal banking platforms.
“The suspects often collect tuition fees from students in full but will pay a lesser amount into the State’s Treasury Single Account (TSA).
“They further go and intercept and manipulate the electronic transaction receipts from the TSA to read complete payment,” he said.
According to him, so far, the suspects have short-changed over 300 students of KASU and the total amount involved is put at over N60 million.
He said the principal suspect (Busaril had used proceeds from the fraud to build and furnish his house, purchased a car, bought electronic appliances, gadgets and plots of lands both in Kaduna and Kwara States.
He added that the suspects had since been charged to court for prosecution.
He said: “In order to checkmate activities of computer related crimes in the state, the command, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Audu Ali, recently established a cybercrime unit.
He said the newly established cybercrime unit was aimed at investigating cybercrime related offences.
“Thus, victims of social media accounts hacking, fake purchase alerts, deceptive social romance, cryptocurrency/Forex frauds, among many other offences, within the state, should forward their complaints to the CP through the newly created unit for diligent investigation,” he said.

Group mobilises special prayers for late President Yar’adua

A community based group in Katsina, Pleasant Library and Book Club (PLBC), has mobilised for special prayers across Juma’at Mosques in the state in memory of late President Umaru Yar’adua.
Addressing newsmen in Katsina on Friday, a member of the group, Dr Mukhtar Alqasim said the prayer was part of their activities to mark the 14th Yar’adua’s Remembrance Day.
Newsmen recalls that late president Yar’adua died on May 5, 2010 after a protracted illness.
According to Alqasim, the PLBC as a community organisation, has written to all Imams across the state, seeking for the prayer during their Friday sermons, and it was conducted.
He further revealed that as part of the activities, they had concluded arrangements to visit orphanages, aged people’s homes, and psychiatry among other places.
“As part of the activities, we have plans during the visits on Saturday, to distribute food items, clothes and other necessary things to those homes and centres.
“On Sunday, PLBC is going to launch a book with over 300 pages titled: ‘What Yar’adua Told and Taught Me’, a reflection on 23-years of lifelong lessons learned under the mentorship of the late president.
“The book was written and would be presented during the ceremony by the PLBC President, Dr Muttaqa Rabe-Darma.
“The programme is being organised by the PLBC, with full support from the state government,” he disclosed.
Alqasim said that during the event on Sunday, some notable personalities would speak on the late president, and also another prayer session would be held at the venue.

Federal Government has approved upward review of electricity tariff for customers on band ‘A’ nationwide with immediate effect.
Under the new tariff, customers on band ‘A’ who enjoy twenty hours of electricity supply daily will now pay 225 naira kilowatts per hour.

At a media briefing in Abuja, vice Chairman of Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, Musliu Oseni says customers on band ‘A’ are fifteen percent of the total Electricity customers in the country.
Oasis Magazine learnt that customers on other bands will not be affected by the new tariff.

Allen Onyeoma, the CEO of Air Peace, has said that those who earn two hundred thousand Naira monthly in Nigeria are better off than those earning two thousand pounds in the United Kingdom.
He said this while appearing as a guest on TVC.
Speaking to the host about the economic crisis and strength of the Naira, Onyema said he agrees that the bulk of the issue is “artificial”.

He added: “Go to London, if you earn two thousand pounds a month in London, you’re a pauper. What two thousand pounds can afford you is like two thousand Naira.”
He continued: “The person earning two hundred thousand Naira in Nigeria is better.”
Onyema added that with earnings of 200,000, a Nigerian can afford a maid, a driver and other domestic staff.
He said he believes completely that the Naira has more value than is being projected when compared to other foreign currencies.
He added that Nigerians should stop demonetising the country.
